How to make light pad cards & flashcards for children with Cortical Visual Impairment (PART 1 of 2)

Learn how to make various learning tools to meet the needs of your child with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). In this video, I show you how to use a laminator, laminating paper, and card stock to put together a variety of flash cards for someone with CVI.

I used a Circuit to cut out my images, but you can use scissors to cut out any object needed. Generic light toys help persons with CVI, but I bet more often than not you are making your child's toys.

If your child is a baby or in school, cviintervention.com is here to make educational resources more available for your child. I offer a ton of educational resources for CVI parents to help their children start learning the world around them. Go to https://www.cviintervention.com to start receiving free ebooks every month. This video just shows you ways to make CVI products, but for actual visual stimulation exercises go to https://www.cviintervention.com/cvivisiontraining.

Dr. Roman-Lantzy, the author of "Cortical Visual Impairment - An Approach to Assessment and Intervention" gives parents some guidance by putting a child's visual progress in to phases: phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3. These resources at cvi intervention.com are to give parents resources to work within those phases. On the other hand, the training videos introduce you to the Diamond Scale Functional Vision Assessment, by Michelle Turner, and how visual impairments lead to impaired movement functions. By applying the principles of the Diamond Scale Functional Vision Assessment not only is vision improved but a child's movement and milestone abilities improve.

More often than not a person with Cortical Visual Impairment has a whole host of other challenges which influence developmental milestone delay as well. So the resources found and cvi intervention.com utilize these vision and learning techniques and assessments presented by Michelle Turner so your child can see and move better.
